Full Size Loft Bed

These beds are the ultimate space-savers, and with some clever modifications you can make up for all sorts of missing storage space that’s not in your apartment, dorm room or your house.

Don’t Have a Closet? Get a Loft Bed

Loft beds make great closets if you put a thin bar or a heavy duty rope under the box spring of the bed. You can use the full length of the bed, the full width of the bed, or just half of either. If you put a shoe storage bench under where your clothes hang you can also have a neat place to keep your good shoes, and a really nice foot rest to put your feet up on while you study under the loft bed. Or the storage bench can be an extra chair if you have someone over for coffee or to study with.

If you are a real clothes horse it is possible to have the equivalent of a full-size walk in closet under your loft bed. And, of course, there are dozens of great ways to further optimize your closet space so you really can fit sixty changes of clothes plus fifty pairs of shoes.

Want a Gaming Area? Use Your Loft Bed

The low, kind of cave like feel under a loft bed can be a perfect gaming den. If you like to play in the dark you can get a thick sheet or two, or a big piece of heavy-duty upholstery fabric (get one with a medieval, wall-hanging feel if that’s similar to the kinds of games you play) and drape it around the bottom of the loft bed. That will keep it dark and will muffle the noise of the game just a bit if you happen to have a roommate that’s a light sleeper. It will also give you a lot of privacy, if you want that too.

Saving up for a flat-screen tv to play the games on will really maximize your space, too.

Need a Study Area? Look Under Your Loft Bed

The typical use of the bottom part of a loft bed is for a study area. In fact, so many people use them as study areas that a lot of loft beds come with desks built in. A lot of them also come with dresser drawers built in too, which means that if you really pared your clothes down and fit them under a section of your loft bed, you could actually transform your closet area into a bookshelf, food storage, or a crazy stereo setup. You could even stack fish tanks in there if you wanted to.

But back to the desk. The one thing you will need under the loft bed is good light, and because the space is tight and heat rises, seriously consider getting one of the new, cooler-burning compact fluorescent bulbs for your light. Squinting just makes studying that much harder.
